St. Edward's University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director for Club Sports and Reservations in Austin, TX. The Assistant Director of Recreation and Wellness will assist in the development, management and growth of a comprehensive Recreation and Wellness department. This program includes club sports, recreational sports, intramurals, personal training, wellness outreach and health promotions, group fitness classes, outdoor adventures and informal recreation opportunities that allow students to participate in a wide variety of healthy and active activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience managing club sports or similar university recreation programs (e.g., Fitness, Health Promotions, Outdoor Recreation, etc).
  • Proven leadership and communication skills with a commitment to student development.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Proficiency in recreation management software (e.g., EZFacility, WhenToWork, IMLeagues).
  • Possess strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Club Sports program ensuring student support, efficiency and alignment with departmental goals.
  • Manage internal reservations in shared spaces with Athletics, Recreation and Wellness, Kinesiology and other departments.
  • Manage external facility reservations and enforce contractual obligations and insurance requirements.
  • Recruit, negotiate and coordinate with local Austin community to increase facility reservations for revenue production.
  • Serve on the Recreation and Wellness leadership team to develop high-level programming and experiences throughout the department.
  • Supervise and mentor student leaders, including Club Sports Coordinators, Staff Development Coordinator and Club Sports Supervisors.
  • Streamline training processes for club sport officers, coaches, and student staff.
  • Manage and support approximately 250 athletes across 16 club sport teams.
  • Foster collaboration with campus partners to enhance club sports programs and events.
  • Expand Club Sport Leadership series and Club Sport Council for all Club Sport athletes.
  • Assess, develop and expand Recreational Sports on campus based on completed assessments.
  • Assess program learning outcomes and their impact on retention, student leadership development and student satisfaction on a yearly basis.
  • Assist with Recreation and Wellness risk management and emergency response action planning and training for all student and professional staff.
  • Complete annual assessment and provide annual reports to ensure adherence to Student Learning Outcomes.
  • Plan, promote and execute end of year Club Sports banquet celebrating accomplishments and highlights of all teams and staff.
  • Provide oversight of daily business transactions and deposits for Club Sports.
  • Recruit, train and supervise student staff of up to 30.
  • Work actively toward accomplishing the University long range plan and serve on campus wide and divisional committees.
  • Provide assistance in planning and administering key university programs and events.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • This position requires work outside of normal business hours to include evenings, weekends and holidays. Some duties may require working outdoors.
  • Physical ability to move up to 25 pounds and perform tasks requiring bending, crouching, and standing for extended periods.
  • Possesses dexterity abilities required to operate a computer and other office equipment to perform related job responsibilities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise up to 25 student staff, including Club Sports Coordinators, Staff Development Coordinator(s), Club Sports Supervisors and other student positions.
  • Supervise Club Sport coaches as independent contractors.
  • Supervise and manage external contracts with local community organizations.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor (or the ability to obtain certification)
EXPECTATIONS

The Assistant Director will serve in a leadership role within the Recreation and Wellness Department and provide insight into big picture departmental operations. In addition, the successful candidate will serve on various university related task forces, committees and community groups relevant to the job duties and outcomes of the department.
