Position description The Laboratory for Genomics Research (LGR) - Assistant/Associate/Full Specialist

The Laboratory for Genomics Research (LGR) is a collaborative effort between UCSF, UC Berkeley, and GSK. The LGR is focused on scaling up current and next-generation functional genomics platforms to better understand the genetic basis of diseases. The LGR strives to build advanced CRISPR-based genome editing and functional genomics platforms empowered by human genetics and computational biology to discover novel drug targets, expand our understanding of the human genome across various disease contexts, and deliver innovative tools to accelerate functional genomics research across academia and industry. Explore our research at http://www.lgr.bio/projects.

The Biology Team at the LGR seeks an Assistant/Associate/Full Specialist to join our team to contribute to new and ongoing projects. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the generation and characterization of iPSC- and primary cell- 3D organoids expressing CRISPR machinery. The candidate will employ advanced cell culture techniques followed by functional genomics screens, RNA sequencing technologies, fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS), imaging, and cell trans-differentiation assays. An exceptional candidate will lead their own independent project, develop assays/methods, be familiar with the literature, and provide guidance to 1-2 junior research staff. Ideally, we welcome applications from a recent Ph.D. graduate who can commit at least 2 years and be flexible on their project assignment. Proficiency at teamwork and the ability to interface with multiple researchers, vendors, and faculty to collaborate on various aspects of the project will be key.

Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) with three or more years of research experience.

Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience in the relevant specialization.

Specialists appointed at the Full rank must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of experience in the relevant specialization.

Candidate must meet the qualifications at the time of appointment. Candidate's CV and/or cover letter must state qualifications (or if pending) upon submission.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Advanced cell culturing methods, such as iPSC differentiation, 3D organoids, primary cells

Molecular biology and cloning techniques

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Creative thinking and problem-solving, exceptional organizational skills, a strong work ethic, careful attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience with respiratory cell-based models (iPSC-derived or primary alveolar organoids)

Functional Genomics screening (CRISPR/Cas) in mammalian systems including in iPSCs and primary cells

Cell line engineering including lentivirus production and cell transduction

Cell trans-differentiation

Assay development

FACS and Flow cytometry (experience with BD systems)

RNA-seq sample preparation (10X Genomics)

Next Generation Sequencing sample preparation (Illumina platforms)

Fluorescence Microscopy
