Position Summary Information
Job Summary/Basic Function: The
Vice President for Operations & Chief Financial Officer
provides strategic oversight for all financial and operational activities at Lamar University. As a key member of the administrative team, the Vice President develops and implements financial policies, ensures the university’s financial sustainability, and coordinates long-range planning. This role involves oversight of accounting, budget preparation, business operations, procurement, facilities, campus operations and capital planning to align with the university’s mission. What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Financial Planning:
Lead
strategic planning, policy development, and financial management activities as a key member of the administrative team. Coordinate
the development of the university’s annual operating budget, overseeing fiscal transactions to ensure compliance with institutional goals and policies. Advise
the university in business matters related to long-range master planning, facilities planning, and capital acquisition.
Financial Management and Policy Development:
Establish
university financial policies and standards to align with the university’s strategic plan and ensure compliance with internal and external regulations. Oversee
business operations including accounting, procurement, investments, and cash management. Review
major grant and contractual obligations to ensure alignment with university financial goals and policies.
Financial Reporting and Compliance:
Oversee
the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements and management reports. Ensure
consistency with university policies and external standards by reviewing financial reports and recommending policy improvements. Formulate
revenue forecasts and recommend adjustments to funding and revenue streams based on institutional needs.
Operational Oversight and Team Management:
Supervise
the operations teams, ensuring alignment with strategic financial objectives. Evaluate
team performance and provide feedback to enhance operational effectiveness. Ensure
compliance with all relevant regulations and internal controls.
Key Competencies (KSAs – Knowledge Skills and Abilities):
Expertise in computerized business, accounting, and budget applications. Deep understanding of GAAP and accounting methods, including cash control and financial reporting. Strong knowledge of federal and state laws related to higher education financial management. Advanced skills in ERP software for finance and student data. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain relationships with all constituencies. Commitment to the mission and goals of higher education. Physical Requirements:
Able to lift 25 pounds and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings. Job Conditions:
Primarily an office environment. Frequent travel required, including overnight stays. Occasional evening and weekend work required for business or university-related activities. Who We Are:

Minimum of five years of experience in governmental or fund accounting and senior management in a higher education or large non-profit organization.
