Duties and Responsibilities Reviews, analyzes and takes appropriate action on the following types of claims or complaints filed against the University of Hawaii (UH), including and not limited to: automobile loss, property damage, third party, incident/accident, and whistleblower. Identifies, analyzes, and addresses risk management issues that impact the proper management of UH programs or that may have systemwide impact to minimize risk to the University. Drafts/updates reports and risk management assessments as requested that demonstrate sound, balanced reasoning; clear articulation of facts and supporting evidence; and knowledge of applicable policies, laws, and procedures. Serves as lead investigator/liaison for the Office of Risk Management. Coordinates/conducts investigations involving injury and property damage claims with internal and external departments. Interacts with insurance brokers and insurers on a variety of insurance related matters on a frequent basis. Provides interpretation and advisory services to campus administrators regarding UH insurance policies, administrative procedures, and contract requirements. Conducts training on risk management related issues upon request or as needed for campus leadership, administrators and other staff members.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a baccalaureate degree in business administration, human resources, social sciences, or related and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for risk management or insurance claims, with at least one year involving investigations; graduation from an accredited law school may substitute for two years of experience; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the investigation and evaluation of bodily injury and property damage claims as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with insurance coverage, claims processing and tort law concepts. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing and spreadsheet software and the use of programs to provide online meetings such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams. As applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations. Ability to travel to various UH facilities on Oahu and the neighbor islands. Desirable Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited law school. Work experience in risk management. Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
