Overview and Responsibilities

Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is seeking an assistant professor of mechanical engineering who is eager to contribute to its Lasallian Catholic mission of awakening, nurturing, and empowering learners to ethical lives of service and leadership. We are especially interested in and give preference to candidates who demonstrate a vision to create and nurture initiatives that will advance our mission within the scope of their duties and who will foster a culture of dialogue that, with respect for all people, supports the search for meaning and purpose in pursuit of excellence.

We seek a broadly trained candidate with a strong background in the areas of fluid mechanics, materials science, machine design, manufacturing processes, statics and dynamics, computer aided design and production automation. We are interested in candidates whose research and teaching will connect and integrate with other disciplines and who have the potential to collaboratively contribute to interdisciplinary curricular and scholarly efforts within the university.

The successful candidate will be passionate about teaching and mentoring at every level of the undergraduate curriculum in an undergraduate, residential, liberal arts- centered institution. A minimum of a master's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field is required, and it should be completed prior to the start date.

Pay range: 70k - 80k

Qualifications

The successful candidate must possess a minimum of a master's degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field. Candidates should possess knowledge and skills in learning strategies, instructional technology, and content delivery. Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is deeply committed to the success of our students.   • Minimum of a master's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate teaching of courses and laboratory sessions that integrates theory, applications, and design principles.
  • Offer insights into designing and equipping new laboratory spaces for teaching, learning, and research.
  • Advise and mentor students in research, academics, capstone projects, internships and post-degree options.
  • Provide professionally related service to the department, university, and community through participation at faculty meetings and committees.
  • Develop professional relationships with the regional industry, educational partners, research institutions, schools and/or other stakeholders.
