The Senior Director of Marketing is a key marketing leader for the W Publishing imprint, managing a select set of top authors and brands. Our team prides itself on excellent author care, quality content, and a collaborative and productive team environment. Our ideal candidate is a marketing innovator who can push platform marketing strategy and title-by-title marketing to the next level, an excellent communicator who inspires trust and confidence in internal and external stakeholders, and a seasoned marketing leader capable of growing author brands.
In addition to author and title responsibilities, the Senior Marketing Director will assist with other initiatives to support the W Publishing Group team and HCCP, working closely with our VP of marketing, sales and digital sales teams to ensure each title’s success in the marketplace. This position requires a strong business acumen with a deep understanding of revenue-driving key performance indicators (KPIs), helping us reach our revenue goals each fiscal year.
This is a hybrid position based out of our Nashville office.
Responsibilities
- Develops and leads the title and brand marketing for a select group of authors for W Publishing, with the goal of meeting or beating the revenue and profit goals for each fiscal year.
- Constantly innovates HCCP marketing strategy and practice to meet the demands of a rapidly changing marketplace, keeping up with the latest marketing trends, reaching consumers in both the faith-based and general markets.
- Actively works towards helping W Publishing meet our backlist revenue goals each fiscal year, developing strategy and implementing tactics all marketers on the team can execute.
- Manages author relationships and ensures clear, effective project management across author and agency team members.
- Oversees the work of external marketing firms brought in to help when needed on specific campaigns, making sure quality of work is meeting our high standards and campaign goals are met.
- Responsible for marketers submitting all pertinent marketing points for catalog sheets, as well as marketing portion of video presentations for sales conferences three times per year.
- Exhibits an in-depth knowledge and understanding of business with financial literacy and the ability to make sound business decisions driving successful outcomes for the organization.
- As the point person and liaison with the Audiobook team for W Publishing, lead on how to implement overall marketing strategy into all our campaigns each fiscal.
- Exemplifies best-in-industry leadership in partnering with the internal sales force, internal direct to consumer platforms, retailers, and media to continue to grow readership for our authors.
- Works with VP of marketing on the annual master marketing budget and allocation of funds for individual projects.
- Inspires the trust of authors and agents and partners with authors to extend their brand reach and grow their readership.
- Builds strong peer relationships with marketing leadership throughout HCCP.
- Conceptualizes and implements winning presentation for internal sales conference. Helps lead efforts and participates in any trade fairs and external conference sponsorships.
- Provides marketing leadership on author acquisitions.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualifications
Work Experience:
- 8+ years of marketing experience required, with 4 or more years in a director role preferred.
- Experience working with high-profile individuals and their teams
- Experience managing a range of marketing mediums (print, radio, digital, social media, direct mail, etc.)
- 4+ years of experience managing members of a marketing team preferred
- Experience presenting marketing plans and updates to groups ranging from internal sales teams to external retailers to potential promotional partners.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications or related field; Master’s Degree preferred
Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the theory and practice of consumer marketing and knowledge of best-practice consumer marketing strategies and tools; familiarity and comfort with core management principles and practices. Direct publishing experience preferred.
Skills:
- Strong communication skills – both external communication to potential readers, as well as internal communication to facilitate the planning & execution of marketing strategies with core constituents including authors & agents. (both written and verbal)
- Highly effective leader and motivator with a track record of success
- A strong business acumen and understanding of P&L reports
- Expert skills in preparing and presenting presentations
- A passion for authors and their products
- Well-organized with excellent time management skills
- Excels at building relationships
- Proficient in basic design for graphics needed such as email headers, social media graphics, freemiums, etc.
- Technical proficiency with marketing tools and programs. (Google Ads, AI Tools, Canva)
