Job Summary:

The Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood and other samples from patients of all ages, ranging from infants to elderly individuals (1-100 years old). They ensure the proper labeling, storage, and delivery of samples to designated departments for analysis. The role also includes educating patients on sample collection techniques and managing patient information while maintaining strict safety and sanitation standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Draw Blood: Use proper techniques to draw blood from patients of all ages (1-100 years old), ensuring comfort and safety during the procedure.
  • Label and Store Samples: Accurately label blood and other bodily fluid samples and store them according to medical and laboratory protocols.
  • Deliver Samples: Safely deliver samples to appropriate departments for testing and analysis, ensuring timely processing.
  • Educate Patients: Provide instructions to patients on how to collect samples correctly when required.
  • Manage Patient Information: Efficiently handle patient information, ensuring confidentiality and accurate documentation in accordance with hospital and legal requirements.
  • Ensure Safety and Sanitation: Maintain the highest standards of safety and hygiene by wearing gloves, using sterilized equipment, and adhering to infection control procedures to prevent cross-contamination.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: Prior experience in phlebotomy or a medical setting is preferred.


Skills:
  • Ability to work with patients of all ages, from pediatric to geriatric.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage patient information accurately and confidentially.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for patient interaction and instruction.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and infection control procedures.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician from a recognized certifying organization (e.g., American Society for Clinical Pathology [ASCP], National Phlebotomy Association is preferred.


Certifications:
  • Required: Phlebotomy certification from an accredited institution is a plus.
  • CPR Certification: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is preferred
