JOB PURPOSE:

Develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Reviews and evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors and soliciting observations from operators.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment layout in the shop.
  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished products and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing process.
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
  • Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
  • Maintains manufacturing equipment by coordinating maintenance and repair services through following manufacturer’s instructions and established procedures, requesting special service.
  • Maintains product and process database by writing computer programs and inputting data.
  • Completes design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Commitment to all safety policies and regulations at all times.
  • Make decision for change to improve production efficiency.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Oversee shop technical and training.
  • Technical support for all employees and all lead position.
  • Create or modify manufacture process as need it.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sheet metal and machine shop.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication and/or machining is preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks is preferred.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Must work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Continuing education to learn new techniques as they emerge.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
  • Knowledge of electronics and machine tools

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None

  • Excellent computer skills required.
  • Able to read and understand engineering drawings/blueprints.
  • Excellent math and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent reading comprehension skills.
  • Experience in a leadership position is strongly desired.
  • Good active listening skills.
  • Must have good problem-solving skills.
  • Must have good organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to read and write complex spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of safety measures pertinent to each job assignment.
  • Must establish and maintain effective working relationships.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands, and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hand and arms; and talk to hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift and climb balancing. Must be able to lift 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or protective gear may be required. Occasionally exposed to risk outside diameter (OD) electrical shock. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, humid condition, fumes, or airborne particles, flying metal burrs and chips and possible chemical irritants such as water-based coolants, hydraulic oils, degreasing soap and mineral spirit. Occasionally exposed to uncomfortable cold or heat.
