Supervisory IT Specialist - Applications Software (Programmer)

Serves as the data administrator for the Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Establishes policies and procedures and the overall administration of the Mainframe System Support Section (database, data dictionary, and data communications), as well as the SENTRY systems development section for the applications programming. Plans and serves on committees to assist in planning and advises executive management on the future directions the BOP should take in major software acquisition and development. Responsible for the integrity of the database, installation of new releases of Integrated Data Management System (IDMS), migration of new modules to the database, and reviewing the test results of new applications programs to assure successful implementation. Implements and maintains security access procedures. Maintains extensive liaison with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and other agencies with respect to systems planning and the implementation of new hardware and software. Salary

Experience: You must have IT related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Attention to detail

- Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information. Problem Solving
- Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade. Experience that demonstrates broad knowledge of operating systems, mainframe systems, database management systems and hardware peripherals for BOPNET. Experience that demonstrates knowledge of database administration and network communications. Experience overseeing phases of existing and planned IT systems.
