The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. The EMT acts within the provisions of Code of Colorado Regulations Emergency Medical Services 6 CCR 1015-3 and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. He or she perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The EMT is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.
Regulatory/Educational Requirements:
* High School Diploma or equivalent. * Current Emergency Medical Technician Certification, within state of Colorado. * Current BLS certification. * At least 18 years of age. * Must obtain certifications in IS-100.b or IS-100.HCb (Introduction to the Incident Command System), IS-200.b or IS-200.HCa (Applying Incident Command System (ICS) to Healthcare Organizations), IS-700.a (National Incident Management System), IS-800.b (National Response Framework, an Introduction). * EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course) within six months of employment. * PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support) and EPC (Emergency Pediatric Care) certification is preferred but not required. * Haz-Mat Awareness is preferred but not required. * Valid motor vehicle operator's license, with continued clear driving record required.
Language Skills:
* Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. * Additional languages preferred. * Excellent customer service skills.
Skills:
* Basic computer knowledge. * Strong communication skills.
THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN FOR A MINIMUM OF 5 DAYS. AFTER THAT DATE, THE POSITION WILL CLOSE WHEN A SUITABLE CANDIDATE IS SELECTED.
As a condition of employment by Southwest Health System (SHS), you will be required to authorize SHS to conduct a background check prior to your commencing work at SHS, which includes a criminal investigation and verification of citizenship/immigration status, employment history, and education. If you are selected for this position, prior to appointment, you will also be subject to a drug testing for illegal drug use. SHS positions are subject to a Post Offer-Pre Work Screen. This physical exam will determine the capability of the applicant to perform the essential functions.
