Position Summary
The Accounting Manager is a cornerstone of our financial operations, ensuring precision, integrity, and efficiency in all accounting processes. In this dynamic role, you will lead a skilled team of professionals while maintaining robust financial controls, providing critical insights to the leadership team, and championing compliance with regulatory standards. You will have a hands-on role in shaping the financial health of a rapidly growing organization at the forefront of healthcare innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management:
- Oversee, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
- Set goals and expectations for team members, conducting regular performance evaluations to support professional growth.
- Serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership, providing financial insights that drive business decisions.
Financial Operations and Reporting:
- Manage all aspects of the general ledger, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and accounts are reconciled in a timely manner.
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring compliance with deadlines and reporting requirements.
- Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring they align with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Oversee inventory transactions, monitoring price fluctuations and ensuring accurate reporting of cost of goods sold (COGS).
Strategic Planning and Analysis:
- Provide detailed financial analysis to support strategic planning and operational efficiency.
- Develop budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections, monitoring variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Collaborate with department heads to align financial goals with overall company objectives.
Compliance and Audit Preparation:
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and regulatory requirements, proactively addressing any compliance risks.
- Act as the primary liaison for external audits, ensuring seamless collaboration and accurate documentation.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, including tax filings.
Systems and Process Improvement:
- Drive the continuous improvement of accounting systems and processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Identify opportunities to leverage technology to streamline operations, including implementing new tools and software.
- Champion a data-driven approach to decision-making, leveraging advanced reporting and analytics tools.
Skills and Competencies
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Proven ability to lead, inspire, and manage a team of accounting professionals.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to foster collaboration across departments and with external stakeholders.
Technical Expertise:
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance standards.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling).
Analytical Thinking:
- Strong ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and thoroughness.
Communication:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience creating comprehensive reports and executive summaries.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands for typing and data entry.
- Occasionally required to lift objects up to 25 pounds.
- Work is primarily conducted indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
Travel
Minimal travel is required, typically for training or business-related meetings.
Qualifications
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- CPA or CMA certification (strongly preferred).
Experience:
- 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing financial operations in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with QuickBooks and ERP systems (preferred).
Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting principles.
