Department Summary:
The Operational Engineering Department (N932), within the MITRE Intelligence Center, applies broad national and strategic engineering and operational expertise and deep understanding of our Sponsors' mission challenges to develop and advance complex human and technical solutions which enable present and future success from tactical to enterprise levels. We develop and apply innovative engineering solutions, thought leadership, and evidence-based recommendations that deliver high impact to our Sponsors’ missions, and we shape and grow the future MITRE intelligence workforce through engineering development.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be an active member of the department management team that plays a key role in staff management while operating in a high-performing organization that delivers effective mission support and outcomes for our sponsors. The Principal Group Leader’s responsibilities include:
Department and Staff Engagement – Serves as direct supervisor for 6-8 staff providing technical support, conducting regular performance and development conversations; mentors, advocates, and recognizes staff; communicates with Project/Task Leaders on staff performance; assesses staff performance and provides constructive feedback to staff
Sponsor Engagement and Relations Management – Engage with sponsors to ensure mission needs are met
Technical Quality, Execution and Capability Development – Assists the Department Manager and leadership team in workforce shaping, hiring, work program development, maintaining awareness of emerging technical issues and opportunities; fulfills other Department and Division management duties as assigned
Applies interdisciplinary competencies in secure systems architecture and design, security operations, threat actor behavior (including insider threat), risk assessment, and network security to business and operational challenges, including technical IT and operational technology (OT) systems and processes.
This position requires an individual who is equally capable and comfortable working in various modes: as an individual contributor (working in close partnership with a government leader); as a team member (working with other MITRE Acquisition and/or Program Management staff); as a team/task leader (leading and coaching team members to ensure performance results on assigned tasks).
Uses broad cyber expertise to identify and create cyber solutions in a dynamic operational environment, to include the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence (ML/AI) to enhance security activities and other automated capabilities.
Develops innovative offerings and identifies opportunities for cyber capabilities by applying a mix of strategic and technical knowledge of network environments, information warfare, regulations, and specific domain requirements.
Leads complex cyber engineering, architecting, and solutioning projects and tasks at the enterprise level, to include using industry-based frameworks such as the Risk Management Framework (RMF
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants MUST hold an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph to be considered.
Requires minimum of: 8 years experience with a Bachelor’s degree; 6 years experience with a Master’s degree; 3 years experience with a Ph.D.; or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
10 years of experience building new IT capabilities and prototypes inside and outside the government classified network, drafting requirements, system design/architecting, and system planning/road mapping including cloud-based environments.
Previous work as cybersecurity engineer.
Excellent critical and strategic thinking abilities, as well as written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to create win-win solutions with a positive “make it happen” attitude.
2 + years at MITRE with established personal network
Extensive knowledge of the Intelligence Community with experience in the counterintelligence and/or security domains
Demonstrated experience in the delivery of detailed cybersecurity analyses and recommendations that produce a measurable increase in an organization’s cybersecurity capabilities
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience and capability to advise the federal government on ongoing operations and engineered solutions.
Experience working with the Special Operations Community
Proven track record in managing staff to meet sponsor needs
Knowledge of MITRE ATT&CK and ATLAS Framework
