Provides in-person, evidence-based instruction in 200-Level Human Anatomy and Physiology courses for students preparing for biology programs, nursing and other healthcare-related programs. Teaching assignments may include other biology classes as needed. The individual will be asked to teach "in-person" lectures and labs and coordinate lab activities with other residential faculty, adjunct faculty and the laboratory staff. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, or weekend classes at the main or north campus. Must be committed to teaching a diverse population of students, effectively assessing student learning, and adjusting instruction/remediating as appropriate. Essential Functions Oversees and instructs a diverse population of students in the classroom and lab settings with a focus on academic standards, equity and student success; develops syllabi and course materials for lecture and lab aligned with approved course competencies, evaluates knowledge of subjects taught, monitors students' academic progress and addresses gaps in student learning, participates in course and college level assessment activities, completes assessment reports, and uses data to refine instructional design for student success, prepares and grades exams, quizzes, and practical exams, provides timely personalized feedback to students, creates and maintains Canvas sites for classes, and submits students' finals grades and required attendance documentation to the registrar in compliance with deadlines Continues to enhance knowledge of the subject matter taught and individual skills required to remain current with developments in the field; professional development activities may include attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, and/or workshops. Maintains office hours as outlined in the Residential Faculty Agreement Collaborates with colleagues on course and program improvement. Participates in department meetings and college meetings or initiatives, required compliance trainings, committee work, and other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications The following disciplines meet the requirements to teach in this field: A. Master's degree or higher in a biology discipline. Biology (biological sciences, life sciences, BIO) is a basic research lab science discipline such as cell biology, molecular biology, physiology, anatomy, microbiology, marine biology, zoology, botany, ecology, developmental, evolutionary, neurobiology, and other disciplines or subfields approved by the Biology Instructional Council OR B. Master's degree or higher in an applied biology discipline. Applied biology includes public health (epidemiology, nutrition, environmental health, biostatistics), bioengineering, biotechnology, environmental science, conservation biology, wildlife management, exercise physiology, pathology, nutrition science, and other applied biology disciplines or subfields approved by the Biology Instructional Council. OR C. Master's degree or higher in medicine or health care including graduate or professional degrees such as MD, DO, DDS/DMD, DPM, DVM, PA, DPT, DC, ND, MBChB or MBBS, and other health care-related disciplines approved by the Biology Instructional Council. Requires transcript evaluation by the hiring committee. OR D. Master's degree or higher in biology education, science education or secondary education with 18 semester graduate credits in biology and/or applied biology courses (see criteria A and B). The required 18 credits of graduate coursework may include up to 6 semester hours of science teaching methods courses. Requires transcript evaluation by the hiring committee. Desired Qualifications A. Experience teaching 200-level, in-person (face-to-face) Anatomy and Physiology lectures and labs. B. Experience teaching undergraduate, in-person (face-to-face) lectures and labs in other fields of biology. C. Evidence of scholarly work including publications, presentations, involvement in professional organizations, and/or other scholarly activities. D. Advanced degree in an evidence-based biology discipline that required a research-based dissertation or thesis.
