SALARY RANGE:
$130,000 - $175,000, plus 12% paid retirement benefits for eligible employees
ASSOCIATION INFORMATION:
The YMCA of Greater Long Beach is a $45M organization with 1,100 employees, 350 are full-time. The HR department includes this position, a Sr. Generalist, Generalist, Administrator, and Intern.
GENERAL OVERVIEW:
As a member of the CEO’s senior leadership team, the Vice President of Human Resources provides strategic leadership to position the YMCA as an “employer of choice.” The role focuses on attracting, developing, and retaining the best talent available while overseeing the development and implementation of talent management, compensation, employee benefits, and human resources policies. Other responsibilities include ensuring legal compliance, employee relations, worker’s compensation, and safety, alongside promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and employee engagement.
PREFERRED CRITERIA FOR CANDIDATES:
Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. SPHR or SHRM-SCP preferred. The YMCA Organizational Leader certificate required within three years from the date of hire.
Experience & Background: 10+ years of proven progressive professional experience in all aspects of human resources management, staff development, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current knowledge and understanding of State and Federal regulations, industry trends, current best practices, new developments, and applicable laws regarding human resources.
KEY FOCUS AREAS:
Lead the talent management process for the Y, ensuring recruitment, training and performance management efforts are aligned with the mission, strategy, and operational goals.
Lead the day-to-day human resources functions, including a strong understanding of functional HR programs ranging from benefits, compensation management, workers comp and legal framework.
Strategically approach compensation management to ensure the organization is prepared and fair in matters related to compensation.
Design, facilitate, oversee training and development programs, including leadership programs, organizational needs assessments and strategic planning.
Navigate employee relations and balance the needs of employees with organizational needs, working to find solutions that allow for maximum mission impact.
KEY DELIVERABLES FOR POSITION:
Keep the association informed and prepared with a plan to manage and navigate changing compensation requirements.
Maintain a well-rounded and cost-effective employee benefit plan for all eligible staff.
Lead the talent management process to decide strategies and framework to roll out programs and process across the association.
Ensure compliance with legal requirements, benefit regulations and fair application of policy in the association.
Champion employee engagement efforts through methods such as action items from the staff survey.
Fully integrate the complete suite of features available in the HRIS system and work to achieve user adoption at the branches.
