JOB TITLE: Superintendent

REPORTS TO: Project Manager, Director of Construction, and Principals (Russ and Scott Murfey)

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITY: Subcontractors, consultants, vendors, laborers, and carpenters, as applicable

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY: Murfey Company, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Superintendent with diverse experience to oversee the construction of our projects, ensuring their delivery on time and within budget. The Superintendent will be responsible for scheduling field work, building the project per plans and specifications, and upholding the Company's corporate values of quality, honesty, and integrity. Furthermore, they will be expected to maintain, develop, and enforce the Company’s field policies through well documented written procedures. This position will require that the Superintendent interface with subcontractors and consultants and assume responsibility for project administration.

NATURE OF WORK:

  • Management position
  • Requires frequent interaction and coordination with subcontractors, consultants, property owners, owner's representatives.
  • Field position with most all work occurring at remote properties.
  • Requires some physical work and lifting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage subcontractors and consultants to ensure a buildable product that:
    • Can be built within the parameters of the budget.
    • Is approved by the ruling municipality in a timely manner.
    • Is consistent with the objective of the contract.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers and consultants in executing plans and specifications, managing RFl’s and submittals.
  • Maintain as-built set of plans.
  • Coordinate government inspections, processing, etc.
  • Coordinate with engineers, utility consultants, utility agencies, etc.
  • Manage and coordinate project schedules (in conjunction with the Project Manager) based on input received from government agencies, consultants, subcontractors, and other related parties.
  • Update and analyze project schedules as events change and notify all affected parties. Notification to include an analysis of financial and other impacts of modifications.
  • Responsible for providing the project team with a written 3 week look ahead schedule on a weekly basis and a written project schedule on a monthly basis.
  • Oversee the owner's process to ensure conformance to design, schedules, and budgets.
  • Prepare, update, and maintain action lists for each project.
  • Lead weekly project meetings during project start-up to ensure that all outstanding items are noted and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate various project walk-throughs at critical construction stages.
  • Schedule management and reporting for Company job and safety inspections.
  • Maintain a safe workspace and adhere to industry safety standards and procedures.
  • Ensure production quality and site cleanliness.
  • Participate in meetings and coordination with Company management, sales personnel, and customer service.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years’ construction experience with 5+ years’ superintendent experience.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks with minimal supervision; prioritize and organize workload.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, and easily develops rapport with people.
  • Proficient in English grammar, punctuation, and basic writing skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, MS Project, and Bluebeam.
  • Must be a team player and a leader.
  • Ability to relate well with customers, agency staff, and management staff at all levels throughout the Company.
  • Ability to represent the Company in public forums and presentations.
  • Must demonstrate effective negotiation skills.
  • Must possess a positive attitude and conduct business with honesty and integrity.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent interaction with owners, laborers, subcontractors, vendors, government agencies, and consultants.
  • May entail some Saturdays and overtime.
  • Requires walking on construction sites, with uneven/unfinished surfaces, temporary stairways, and construction debris.
  • Working outside / on jobsite.
