We are offering a permanent employment opportunity for an individual proficient in General Accounting duties within Grants and Budget Office, based in Los Altos, California. The successful candidate will be taking on responsibilities that primarily involve Financial Aid reconciliations, collaborating with detail oriented personnel on grant-related matters, and assistance in the district's financial, auditing, and accounting programs.
Responsibilities:
• Assisting in the management of the district's financial, auditing, and accounting programs with a detail oriented and technical approach
• Collaborating on state and local grant matters with Senior Accountant
• Handling Financial Aid reconciliations using Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and macros
• Preparing a broad range of financial statements and reports such as monthly and quarterly statements, fiscal year-end, general ledger, and budget reports
• Analyzing balance sheet and revenue and expenditure accounts, reconciling accounts to verify fund availability and expenditure classification
• Preparing journal entries and reconciling general ledger and subsidiary accounts
• Reviewing payment requests such as invoices, travel vouchers, reimbursement claims for accuracy and compliance with applicable contracts, grants, or policies
• Monitoring the District's grant funds to ensure compliance with each grant's governing rules and regulations
• Organizing financial records and data in preparation for annual audits
• Participating in the preparation and administration of annual budgets, providing revenue and expense projections, assisting in running budget reports, and monitoring expenditures for compliance with adopted budget
• Recording and maintaining appropriate controls for fixed assets
• Conducting and preparing special studies and reports, legal documents, and management analyses
• Interpreting, explaining, and applying general and governmental accounting/auditing principles and procedures, laws, policies, and regulations affecting the district's financial operations.• Position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in general accounting duties within a Grants and Budget Office.
• Applicant must possess skills in retail accounting, demonstrating the ability to handle financial transactions and manage inventory records.
• Proficiency in month-end close procedures is necessary, including preparing, reviewing and closing monthly financial reports.
• Must have expertise in balance sheet account reconciliation, ensuring accurate representation of company's financial position.
• Experience in account reconciliation is essential, including reconciling discrepancies between general ledger accounts and subsidiary accounts.
• Candidate must be capable of preparing and posting journal entries, maintaining accurate records of the company's financial transactions.
• Proficiency in adjusting journal entries is required, including correcting errors and making necessary adjustments to the general ledger.
