Position: Hardware Board Design Engineer
As an experienced Hardware Board Design Engineer (individual contributor), you will collaborate with the platform team and various cross-functional teams, including software, firmware, packaging, SIPI, product management, and component suppliers. You will be responsible for creating high-performance board designs and ensuring their successful transition to production for our server products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with hardware, software, firmware, and FPGA teams to develop board and system documentation.
- Work with suppliers and project teams to select components.
- Capture schematics using OrCAD and manage board layouts using Allegro tools.
- Design boards and systems to meet technical requirements, collaborating throughout design and testing phases.
- Develop and document hardware test plans with team members.
- Participate in board/system bring-up and system integration efforts.
- Develop test scripts as required to facilitate and support testing activities.
- Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure successful production and delivery to customers.
- Prepare and present technical documentation and reports to stakeholders, including engineering teams, senior management, customers, and suppliers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related field.
- 6+ years of experience in server hardware design.
- Expertise designing high-speed, dense, multi-layer PCBs and systems.
- Proficiency in logic design, schematic capture, board layout tools, and testing.
- Strong knowledge of SIPI, PDN, thermal management, and compliance testing.
- Expertise in high-speed analog and digital design.
- Hands-on experience with PCIe, DDR, Ethernet, SerDes, and communication protocols (I2C/I3C/SPI/MDIO).
- Proficiency with lab/debug tools such as logic analyzers, PCIe/I2C analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, traffic generators, differential probes, and VNAs.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment.
- Strong technical documentation skills and excellent written and verbal communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in server hardware design.
- In-depth knowledge of processor-memory architectures and designs.
- Experience with PLD/FPGA bring-up, testing, and debugging, including signal integrity.
- Working knowledge with scripting languages (Python, PERL, TCL).
