Position: Hardware Board Design Engineer

As an experienced Hardware Board Design Engineer (individual contributor), you will collaborate with the platform team and various cross-functional teams, including software, firmware, packaging, SIPI, product management, and component suppliers. You will be responsible for creating high-performance board designs and ensuring their successful transition to production for our server products.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with hardware, software, firmware, and FPGA teams to develop board and system documentation.
  2. Work with suppliers and project teams to select components.
  3. Capture schematics using OrCAD and manage board layouts using Allegro tools.
  4. Design boards and systems to meet technical requirements, collaborating throughout design and testing phases.
  5. Develop and document hardware test plans with team members.
  6. Participate in board/system bring-up and system integration efforts.
  7. Develop test scripts as required to facilitate and support testing activities.
  8. Partner with manufacturing teams to ensure successful production and delivery to customers.
  9. Prepare and present technical documentation and reports to stakeholders, including engineering teams, senior management, customers, and suppliers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related field.
  2. 6+ years of experience in server hardware design.
  3. Expertise designing high-speed, dense, multi-layer PCBs and systems.
  4. Proficiency in logic design, schematic capture, board layout tools, and testing.
  5. Strong knowledge of SIPI, PDN, thermal management, and compliance testing.
  6. Expertise in high-speed analog and digital design.
  7. Hands-on experience with PCIe, DDR, Ethernet, SerDes, and communication protocols (I2C/I3C/SPI/MDIO).
  8. Proficiency with lab/debug tools such as logic analyzers, PCIe/I2C analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, traffic generators, differential probes, and VNAs.
  9. Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment.
  10. Strong technical documentation skills and excellent written and verbal communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related field.
  2. 10+ years of experience in server hardware design.
  3. In-depth knowledge of processor-memory architectures and designs.
  4. Experience with PLD/FPGA bring-up, testing, and debugging, including signal integrity.
  5. Working knowledge with scripting languages (Python, PERL, TCL).
