Job Description

The Yard Worker is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of a waste management facility. This position involves handling various waste materials, ensuring the cleanliness of the facility, maintaining equipment, and supporting the loading and unloading of trucks. The ideal candidate will be hardworking, reliable, and capable of performing manual labor in an outdoor environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Material Handling: Sort, organize, and move waste materials including recyclables and bulk trash, ensuring proper disposal and recycling processes are followed.
Equipment Operation: Operate compactors, balers, forklifts, or other heavy machinery (training may be provided).
Loading and Unloading: Assist with loading and unloading of trucks, ensuring materials are properly secured and delivered efficiently.
Facility Maintenance: Perform regular cleaning and maintenance tasks around the yard, including sweeping, cleaning debris, and maintaining orderly work areas.
Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Assistance to Drivers: Provide support to waste truck drivers by ensuring bins are in place and trucks are properly loaded/unloaded.
Customer Interaction: Assist customers or contractors with inquiries or concerns related to waste disposal or recycling, as needed.
Equipment Maintenance: Report any equipment issues or malfunctions to supervisors for timely repairs and service.

Requirements:

Physical Ability: Capable of lifting heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and performing repetitive tasks, such as lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
Experience: Previous experience in a yard or waste management setting is preferred but not required. Training will be provided.
License: Forklift or heavy equipment certification is a plus.
Safety Awareness: Understanding of workplace safety procedures and ability to adhere to them consistently.
Team Player: Ability to work well with others in a fast paced environment.
