JOB SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for recording general ledger activity, reconciling accounts, preparing internal financial statements for review and participating in processes that ensure compliance with agency fiscal policies and procedures, and generally accepted accounting principles.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The General Ledger Accountant supports the day-to-day operations of the agency's fiscal and accounting processes. This may include all or portions of general ledger, fixed assets, banking transactions/cash flow, recording interest, pledges and restricted funds, month-end procedures, reporting and database maintenance:
• General Ledger: Review monthly transactions for accuracy, prepare and record month & year-end journal entries, reconcile all asset, liability, and net asset balance sheet accounts monthly, manage chart of accounts, timely reconciliation all balance sheet accounts including benefits.
• Fixed Assets: maintain fixed asset database, record acquisitions and disposals, prepare and record depreciation expense monthly, reconcile all fixed asset and accumulated depreciation accounts.
• Bank Accounts/Cash Flow: Monitoring of banking transactions and line of credit balance, monitoring of agency cash flow to assure availability of funds to meet agency financial commitments, reconcile all agency banking and investment accounts monthly and issue bank and cash flow reports.
• Tracking Funds: Review, research and enter earned interest on accounts, track and record restricted endowments and funds, track pledges.
• Audit and Tax Preparation: Maintain and gather backup for annual financial audit. Gather information for annual 990.
• Accounts Payable/Receivable: Lead the processing of stale AP and payroll checks annually, manage employee limits on credit cards, back up AR coordinator as needed, review AR entries.
• This position is responsible for various annual and year-end procedures, including preparing and recording some year-end journal entries, database year-end closing procedures, prepares year-end audit schedules, facilitates agency annual audit and other program audits, provides backup documentation, research, compile, and prepare data to complete fiscal reporting as needed.
• This position may be assigned other duties as needed.
• Meets performance standards set forth by Director of Finance.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely meet the following requirements
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Accounting;
• Five years of experience working in financial accounting. Experience working with non-profit accounting and GAAP standards preferred;
• Must be detail oriented with high level of accuracy;
• Proven analytical skills and ability to problem solve;
• Proven organizational skills and ability to multitask in order to meet deadlines;
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
• Sensitivity and ability to relate to people from diverse lifestyles and cultures;
• Ability and willingness to work as a team member and support Impact NW's mission and goals;
• Possess computer skills including competency in accounting database software as well as Windows, Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Ability to work independently and be self-motivated;
• Experience in complex accounting systems.
