Position Title Sports Information Director Division Administrative Services Department Athletics Job Description
Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to serve student athletes and the media by promoting, chronicling, and preserving the living history of Western Iowa Tech Community College athletics.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Promote and manage interaction between local media and Comets Athletics.
* Act as primary point of contact for sports-related media inquiries and interview requests.
* Work with coaches to ensure their informational and promotional goals are met.
* Develop and foster relationships with regional media outlets.
* Develop, strengthen, and maintain cohesion of Comets Athletics brand.
* Write, publish, and distribute press releases.
* Produce, edit, and archive photo content.
* Develop video content for social media, website, YouTube channel, video board.
* Produce and mange content for athletics website.
* Produce media guides, pocket schedules and game programs.
* Collaborate with marketing to develop promotional materials for athletic events.
* Produce and manage social media content.
* Monitor social media for user feedback and provide appropriate responses.
* Record, organize and archive statistics and records.
* Coordinate media days for each team.
* Work with coaches to promote camps.
* Write and/or pitch feature stories to media.
* Collaborate with recruitment team to hold special events for potential athletes.
* Work with marketing to create athlete-specific recruitment material.
* Uses database applications to create and manage files and communicate information, maintaining confidentiality.
* Communicates effectively orally and in writing to a diverse population of students.
* Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree preferred and experience in a related field.
* Previous experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
* Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands
Occasional sitting, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Ability to operate computer and other office equipment in the performance of duties. Some tasks require visual and hearing perception and discrimination. Tasks may involve extended periods of time standing, and walking.
