General Description:

Maintains and services mechanical equipment, machinery, and components. Performs skilled repair services of mechanical, electrical, and building systems and equipment. The Mechanic Level 3 has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job with responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly upkeep and repairs of equipment and facility in a 24 hour a day 7 day a week bakery.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Observe and diagnose equipment for repair
  • Conduct daily rounds and inspections to evaluate requests for repair
  • Completes boiler water testing
  • Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance and service on machines.
  • Follows instruction from manager/supervisor
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Ability to read and understand Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Disassemble machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs
  • Examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear
  • Reassemble after completion of inspection
  • Repair and replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment
  • Operate newly repaired equipment to verify adequacy of repairs
  • Thoroughly cleans, lubricates, and adjust parts, equipment and machinery
  • Oils and lubricates moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance
  • Ability to record maintenance repairs performed
  • Works independently within established procedures
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Basic electrical knowledge
  • Promotes and works within established safety, quality, and food safety procedures.

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Works well independently and with others
  • 3+ years’ experience as a maintenance mechanic
  • Reading comprehension, mathematics, and writing
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Organized with attention to detail
  • Must be competent in the following skills: conveyor belts, hydraulics, welding and fabrication.
    • Industrial sized oven, manual proofers, automatic proofers and mixer experience a plus
  • Electrical control and trouble shooting
    • PLC trouble shooting

Physical Requirements:

  • Bend to grasp objects and ability to climb ladders
  • Bend and lift load not to exceed 50 pounds unassisted or 100 pounds with assistance
  • Work in very hot temperatures (>90 degrees F) seasonally
  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts including weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment while being exposed to wheat flour and gluten.
  • Must be able to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls and be able to stand, kneel, crouch, walk, stoop, bend, twist, or crawl
  • Must be able to work in cramped workspaces and no difficulties getting into areas that create uncomfortable positions
  • Requires exposure to high places as well as hazardous equipment and positions
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
