Job Description:

Job Summary: The Rad Technologist PRN provides information used to diagnose patients by operating radiologic equipment to produce patient images. Daily tasks require precise work and attention to detail as well as adherence to strict safety procedures. Responsibilities such as, but not limited to, assisting physicians in Radiology, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Endoscopy, Ortho, Oncology. Performs procedures and patient care, such as medication administration, vital signs, patient history, places and monitors IV, oxygen, chest tube or other medical devices. Ability to work with minimal supervision and make independent decisions while maintaining tact, maturity and a positive attitude.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
  1. Performs a variety of tasks involved in operating equipment to produce radiographs per protocol and physician orders. Adjusts equipment for proper radiographic exposure techniques in accordance with radiation safety guidelines.
  2. Positions patients for each anatomical view using immobilization and protective equipment as appropriate. Effectively explains procedure to patients so that they have complete understanding of the radiographic procedure and documents accurately in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  3. Transports patients within the guidelines defined by JPS Health Network.
  4. Monitors accessory equipment and assists physicians with fluoroscopic procedures. Must be able to closely follow physician instruction to obtain optimal images for diagnosis. Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique, emergency medications and equipment.
  5. Accurately process images and critiques for optimal quality, positioning, and technical factors. Matches with appropriate documentation for interpretation.
  6. Understands and uses Picture Archival Computer System (PACS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and other software related to job responsibilities.
  7. Provides a safe and clean environment; ensuring operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques . Reporting equipment problems to Biomed and Manager.
  8. Provides education and training to affiliated radiology technology programs. Provides orientation and training to new technologists. Assists with the training of new physicians (residents).
  9. Works in any area of diagnostic radiology, clinic or sheriff's department as deemed necessary by supervisor / manager.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree or equivalent from JRCERT approved school of Radiologic Technology Science.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiology (R).
  • Certified by the Texas Medical Board (TMB) as a Medical Radiologist Technologist (MRT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by first day of employment is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified by the State of Texas as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT)
  • Associate degree in Radiologic Sciences.
