Job Overview The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Bureau of Land (BOL), is seeking an Office Specialist. This position provides a variety of paraprofessional technical and complex office support functions for the professional/technical staff of the Field Office. The ideal candidate for this position will be organized, detailed and possess the ability to adapt to change in a collaborative, fast paced environment. The ideal candidate will also need to be able to communicate effectively verbally, electronically and in writing with both internal and external stakeholders. Essential Functions Serves as the office manager for the Field Office Section, performing specialized para-professional/technical functions for the Bureau of Land (BOL), Division of Land Pollution Control, Deputy Bureau Chief, Field Office Section (FOS) Manager’s office . Performs general office management for FOS as a whole and for the Springfield Region Field Office individually. Serves as the BOL complaint line coordinator. Serves as point of contract for delegated county field offices. Serves as point of contract between the Materials Management and Compliance Section and FOS. Coordinates FOS Vehicle Tracking. Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Requirements Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two years of secretarial/business college and one year of office experience, or completion of high school and three years of office experience, or three years of independent business experience. Requires ability to type accurately, at 30 Words per minute. Preferred Qualifications Prefers the ability to utilize a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and mapping location software (ArcGIS, SWAP, and Google Earth) for determining longitude and latitude of locations. Prefers ability to follow oral or written instructions. Prefers extensive knowledge of office practices, procedures and programs. Prefers extensive knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Prefers working knowledge of the logic of computer programs. Prefers extensive knowledge of basic mathematics. Prefers ability to operate commonly used manual and automated office equipment and perform routine maintenance. Conditions of Employment Requires the ability to pass a name-based background check.
