The Assistant Director develops and implements employee training to ensure operational consistency and proficient frontline operations at the Marino Recreation Center. This position reports to the Associate Director – Business & Technology. Provides leadership, hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision for the Facility Assistants assigned to the Marino Recreation Center as well as Building Supervisors assigned to the Marino Recreation Center and the SquashBusters Center. As the primary support to the point person for facility matters; maintains the business processes and communications between all facility stakeholders relative to access and operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Provides leadership related to overall employment standards and expectations for all part-time employees.
Completes the hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision for the Facility Assistants assigned to the Marino Recreation Center as well as Building Supervisors assigned to both the Marino Recreation Center and the SquashBusters Center.
Provides recommendations/direction to the Associate Directors and other Assistant Directors on existing and future facilities policies and training programs/standards.
Serves as an ambassador and advocate for University Recreation internally and externally and provides day-to-day leadership on any projects assigned by the Associate Directors.
The Assistant Director effectively communicates with all appropriate campus partners, including but not limited to: Center for Student Involvement, Student Employment, Student Financial Services, Facilities, and Registrar’s Office.
Serves as primary risk manager for areas of oversight and when working department programs/events/facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, sports administration, exercise science, exercise physiology, health and fitness, kinesiology, physical education general studies, or related field.
Minimum of 2 years of successfully demonstrated experience in campus recreation administration and/or successfully demonstrated experience in supervising athletic and recreation facilities along with student employees or comparable related experience (relative GA experience will be considered).
Proficient with Microsoft Office programs and the ability to adapt to learning in-house systems of management/logistics and robust daily operations of recreation facilities/programs.
Demonstrated strength in communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills necessary to successfully manage issues when resolving conflicts related to direct reports/members/others.
Possess strong leadership, oral and written communication skills, as well as supervisory and training skills when working with student employees/leaders/professional employees.
Developed interpersonal skills and customer care/service skills are a must.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in Recreation/Sports Management, Exercise Science/Kinesiology/Exercise Physiology, Education, or related field.
Successfully demonstrated experience with front-line customer service in high-volume use facilities with diverse patronage, as well as training a diverse workforce to ensure superior customer care, in areas such as - Providing training relative to hallmarks for inclusive/welcoming environments, supervising numerous student employees from diverse backgrounds, in different positions, in a higher education recreation setting, developing and implementing policies and procedures, maintaining and managing facilities.
Facilitator/training experience, public speaking/presentation skills.
CPR/AED Instructor Trainer.
