Description

National Presto Industries, a nationally recognized manufacturer of small household appliances is looking for a talented Associate CAD Drafter to join our team. This position supports the Product Development Engineering department by drafting and maintaining product specification documentation such as 3D CAD models, 2D CAD drawings, engineering change orders (ECOs), bills of materials (BOMs), illustrated parts lists (IPLs), and other product history data with emphasis on accurate, timely completion. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with Engineers and Engineering Administrative Specialist(s) in the department on a daily basis. Interface occasionally with personnel from the model shop, test lab, quality assurance, test kitchen, and CSI/ID departments.
  • Draft and maintain engineering 2D/3D specifications for the gamut of parts, assemblies, and quality specifications as assigned (usually via CAD Tasks)
  • Document production changes using ECO procedure and form
  • Integrate legacy CAD data into current systems (Solidworks/PDM)
  • Complete product specification retrieval (EG50) sheets for modified products and new derivative products
  • Create service items (packaging and documentation)
  • Create IPLs
  • Assist with creation and maintenance of parts lists and engineering BOMs
  • Communicate status of tasks and assignments frequently
  • Write daily communication with manufacturers and transmit associated electronic CAD files
  • Some domestic travel as necessary for training, tradeshows, etc. (1 to 2 weeks per year typical)
  • Complete miscellaneous engineering support activities and associated documentation (replacement tooling qualification, alternate component/material qualification, test requests, kitchen requests, etc.)
Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Associate Degree in Mechanical Design (or equivalent) required
  • At least one year of relevant experience in 2D drafting and 3D modeling
  • SolidWorks 3D/2D and PDM experience preferred
  • Proficient with Windows-based PC's operating Microsoft productivity suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Intermediate skill level for CAD 2D drawing (preferably in SolidWorks)
  • Intermediate skill level for CAD 3D modeling (preferably in SolidWorks)
  • Ability to plan and manage time efficiently to complete tasks and assignments on schedule
  • Basic knowledge of materials and manufacturing methods
  • Experience with hand tools and measurement tools
  • Demonstrate professionalism including high quality verbal and written communications critical for interaction with internal and external peers
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • Work is performed both indoors in normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, or temperature changes, and in factory environments involving noise, dust, fumes, high humidity, and temperature changes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Light lifting of equipment and boxes of paper
  • Frequent computer use at workstation for extended periods of time, sometimes up to eight hours duration
  • Mobility within the office, including movement from one department to another
  • Mobility within a factory setting, requiring the ability to ascend up several flights of stairs and movement through large warehouses or production facilities in warm, humid conditions or cold, dry conditions
  • Use of electrical and mechanical tools, instrumentation, and machinery
  • Must be able to operate all standard office equipment

JOB STATUS: Full Time

FLSA: Non-Exempt

NORMAL WORK HOURS: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break.
