Community Action Agency is seeking an adaptive, energetic Accounting Technician to join our team of professionals. The Accounting Technician position will perform assigned duties within accounts payable and receivable. The person in this position will perform other accounting and administration duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate's Degree in Accounting, Business or related field.

  • Two years related experience and/or training or education in accounting related field.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Driver qualification status is not required for this position.

  • Successful registration with the Office of Child Care Central Background Registry.

  • Candidate must pass a comprehensive MWVCAA background screening prior to employment.

  • Candidate must pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with accounting software platforms preferred.

  • Demonstrates ability to perform basic accounting functions.

  • Demonstrated proficiencies with Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Utilizes effective communication skills with individuals and small and large groups.

  • Organizes, prioritizes, and applies logic in approach to work. Effectively manages time in order to manage priorities and deadlines.

  • Reviews accounts payable invoices and confirms correct accounting codes were used.

  • Enters vendor information into accounting software system.

  • Verifies that invoice information is entered correctly.

  • Issues payments to vendors as approved.

  • Processes routine monthly payments as approved.

  • Answers vendor questions by researching accounts.

  • Reviews customer receipts and confirms correct accounting codes were used.

  • Enters customer receipts into accounting software system.

  • Researches general accounting questions.

  • Identifies and resolves discrepancies with various accounting transactions.

  • Performs a variety of administrative duties that may involve filing, calculations, tracking, and checking documents.

  • Reviews documents for accuracy, processes and/or files documents according to standard procedures or instructions.

  • Prepares correspondence, reports and other materials from rough drafts. Composes correspondence or prepare reports.

  • Contributes to maintenance of accounting data and provide support as needed to accounting department.

  • Schedules and confirm travel dates, reservations, conference fees and hotel accommodations in a manner consistent with agency travel policies.

  • Processes travel advances for all programs consistent with agency travel policies.

  • Oversees record retention functions and schedule document destruction according to agency policy.

  • Places orders for supplies as needed for daily operations.

  • Prepares and submits invoices for contract services.

  • Prepares administration invoices and submits for payment.

  • Maintains files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with agency policies and procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

There are no supervisory duties in this position.

  • Requires navigating pressure of frequent deadlines and complex work projects through planning, problem-solving, resourcefulness, and creative thinking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Indoor, office work environment with frequent interruptions and demands.

  • Working with coworkers/clients over the phone and in-person.

  • Occasional noise and distractions in work spaces.

  • Occasional remote work as approved by supervisor.

  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends.
