Job Summary: The Graduate Research Assistant will assist with the Population Sciences in the Pacific department with survey and interview data collection and analysis as part of a NIDA-funded prevention intervention study in Windward Oahu. The school- and community-based research study will focus on Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander youth in rural communities. Job duties include participant recruitment, survey development, validation, and administration at public and public-charter schools. The Graduate Research Assistant will also participate in study development, including culturally grounded video adaptations, innovation tournament design and evaluation, ecological momentary assessment monitoring, and development of social and print media components of the intervention. Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions: Participant Recruitment (30%) Collaborate with the research team and public schools to recruit faculty, staff, and students for participation in focus groups, interviews, and surveys. This involves traveling to these schools to engage participants in project-related research. Data collection and analysis (25%) Collect data from faculty, staff, and students in public schools by using surveys, group interviews, and individual interviews. Project Development (20%) Assist with the development and adaptation of innovation tournaments, ecological momentary assessment, and culturally grounded video(s). Assist with data collection on substance use and resistance skills in middle school students. Assist in contributing to the development and validation of the intervention's social and print media components. Prepare and submit manuscripts for publication in reputable journals (20%) Assist academic mentors to prepare, submit, and track grants and manuscripts for publication in scientific journals. Performs other related duties as assigned (5%) Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Masters or doctoral degree candidate in Social Work, Social Welfare, Public Health, Psychology, or related field Must be enrolled at the University of Hawaii Manoa campus as a graduate student in a graduate program. Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above. Must have good time management, detailed orientated and follow through on assigned tasks. Must have reliable personal transportation to facilitate travel to all worksites and other locations as required by the position. This includes a valid driver's license and a personal vehicle that is legally registered and insured.
