Position Description
Custodians with the Parks & Recreation Department perform a variety of cleaning service tasks to keep public grounds and buildings clean, orderly, and maintained. Performs related duties as required. Employee may be required to travel to various locations to perform assigned duties
*Work schedules may include weekends, some evenings, night-shift, and holidays.*
Metro's Parks and Recreation Department has something for everyone through its variety of strategically placed facilities and programs. Parks offers cultural arts and fitness classes, dog parks and nature programs and 16,000 acres of open space, including 6 municipal golf courses, 121 parks and 19 greenways. Ice hockey, sports leagues, art galleries and much more are among the offerings. Parks is a fun place where there's always something going on.
Typical Duties
Minimum Qualifications
8th grade education and three (3) years of general custodial and/or maintenance experience.
Additional education may be considered for up to two (2) years' experience.
LICENSE REQUIRED:
Valid Driver License
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

Typical Duties
- Cleans and maintains buildings.
- Sweeps and mops halls, rooms, rest rooms, stairways, and other public areas.
- Strips, waxes, and buffs floors.
- Cleans and maintains all floors, carpets, furniture, and fixtures.
- Washes windows, walls, blinds, rails, and air vents.
- Performs minor building and fixture repairs.
- Sanitizes, cleans, and restocks rest rooms.
- Empties trash containers.
- Removes all litter and debris from the ground.
- Salts and shovels snow and ice.
- Keeps outside area in good repair.
- Prepares rooms for meetings and special events.
- Checks for signs of break-ins or attempted break-ins and vandalism.
- May move, load, or unload heavy objects, supplies, or other materials.
