Job Title: Respiratory Therapist II Job Specialty: Therapeutic Treatment Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day, 6:30 am to 7:00 pm Guaranteed Hours: Not specified Experience: 0-2 years of clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months in critical care License: Respiratory Therapist License Certifications: Not specified Must-Have: Experience in critical care environments Job Description: - Responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge and the evaluate-and-treat process. - Deliver patient care in complex, multi-problem scenarios, primarily in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management. - Exercise significant independent decision-making and self-direction. - Provide patient, family/support system education. - Coordinate activities, staff development, and engage in professional self-development activities. - Address biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs in patient care. - Participate in new employee and peer education. Responsibilities and Essential Functions: - Completion of patient care, documentation, and education using a team approach. - Foster a positive work environment and provide support for students and staff. - Perform patient assessments for therapy and collaborate with healthcare team members to plan patient care. - Verify orders and administer aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, and oxygen medical gas therapy. - Handle ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation, and airway management (intubation, extubation, tracheostomy tube change and care). - Conduct arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. - Educate patients and mentor/precept new employees, students, and peers. - Assist in invasive and non-invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing. Environment and Safety: - Promote current and accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging. - Ensure a high level of patient safety (including Medication Safety and National Patient Safety Goals). - Support Performance Improvement initiatives to promote quality care. - Advocate for evidence-based practice and review revised and new department policies and procedures.
