This position oversees all dock operations, ensures the smooth flow of goods in and out of the warehouse, and maintains a safe and efficient working environment. The role requires hands-on experience in managing dock activities, from receiving shipments to dispatching goods, while supervising a team and ensuring compliance with company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that all inbound and outbound shipments are handled efficiently and accurately. Direct the loading and unloading of trucks, ensuring proper handling and safety procedures are followed. Address any issues that arise during the shipping and receiving process.
- Assign tasks to the dock staff, monitor their performance, and provide ongoing training and development opportunities. Promote a culture of safety and high performance within the team.
- Ensure that all incoming and outgoing shipments are verified for accuracy, including the correct identification of product pieces and parts. Work with the warehouse team to maintain accurate inventory records and resolve any discrepancies.
- Enforce all safety procedures on the dock, including the proper operation of equipment and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Conduct regular safety checks and address any hazards promptly.
- Work closely with other departments to schedule shipments and allocate resources effectively. Communicate with drivers and third-party logistics providers to ensure smooth operations.
- Quickly address any operational challenges that arise, such as damaged goods, delays, or equipment malfunctions. Work proactively to minimize disruptions and maintain productivity on the dock.
- Identify opportunities to improve dock operations, including workflow efficiency, safety practices, and team performance. Implement process improvements as needed to enhance overall productivity.
- Maintain all material handling equipment logs and service records.
- Ensure the warehouse is always clean and orderly.
- Monitor workloads and forecast labor requirements for warehouse duties.

- Experience in dock operations, warehouse supervision, or a related field, preferably within the commercial furniture industry.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop a team.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
- Problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle operational challenges in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills, capable of coordinating with multiple departments and external partners.
- In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and procedures specific to dock and warehouse environments.
- Proficiency in using warehouse management systems and other relevant software.
- Skilled operator of warehouse material handling equipment.
