Position summary:
Responsible for the growth of our Facility Construction Management (CM) operations, business development, oversight of Project and Program Management of new and current contracts, financial success, and managing staff for the department at the local level. Integration with our Transportation CM and Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing (MEP) leaders locally, alignment with their clients and coordination for future workshare and other assignments.
Essential functions and responsibilities
Identify upcoming Facility CM opportunities in the industry in advance of the solicitation posting to industry
Strategically develop a plan and potential teaming partners for upcoming Facility CM opportunities
Coordinate strategic growth plan with office managers, local section heads from MEP, architectural and buildings structures disciplines and practice leaders
Establish and grow market presence in area through marketing and business development
Manage financial budget for department and allocate resources accordingly
Lead and contribute to the production of proposals
Serve as a technical expertise resource to project managers and technical staff
Establish resources staffing needs for the section
Interview and hire staff for the section
Perform performance reviews for staff based on input from project managers on assigned teams
Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team
Nonessential functions and responsibilities
Perform other related duties as assigned
Participate in local relevant industry agencies and chapters such as ACEC and CMAA
Required Skills
Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an accredited program
Understanding of Construction Management Best Practices in the Buildings and Facilities industry
Professional Engineer License or equivalent
15+ years' experience in specialized discipline
Project management and business development experience
Preferred Experience
Professional Engineer (PE) License in VA, Washington DC
Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or Project Management Professional (PMP)
Experience working with local clients at the county and state level
A network of clients and AEC partners, including small business partners in the Northern Virginia, Richmond and Hampton Roads area
Experience with school's programs for CM project needs and requirements
Experience in the Water/Wastewater industry with pump stations, treatment plants and ancillary utility facilities
Experience with Transit Agencies such as WMATA, VRE, HRT, Amtrak, CSX
Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems for construction inspection and quality oversight
Supervisory experience
Experience with Construction Document Management Systems and their applications, such as Procore, e-Builder for example
Understanding of Project Controls such as scheduling, cost estimating, claims management, risk management, value engineering workshop management
Experience with Building Commissioning (Cx) and Asset Management
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Field visits are anticipated to meet with staff, clients and contractors on a weekly basis. Driving to other Virginia offices for staff, partnering and client coordination is expected monthly.
