ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Seasonal Position; Days and hours vary depending on program needs. Must be able to work weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

The Gulf Beach Lifeguard participates in beach rescue operations on the beaches and dispatch calls from drowning to trauma with injuries.

* Respond to any medical emergency on the gulf beaches. Respond to calls to include swimmers in distress, drowning, recovery, major medical calls, major trauma and minor injuries. * Ensure that all beach rescue equipment stays in top working condition and cleaned. * Stay current with all required training and development. * Assist with special events by providing water safety, first aid, traffic control and supplies. * Will be required to operate jet skis and trucks with lights and sirens. * May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

* Less than high school or equivalency * No prior experience required * Must be able to successfully perform an open water rescue. * CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications must be obtained within six (6) weeks from date of hire from our agency * Must be able to swim 500 meters (550) yards over a measured course in ten minutes or less * Must successfully complete USLA training within six weeks of hire * Must be able to pass a test of strength and stamina to perform the rigorous physical duties of an open water lifeguard

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

Closing Statement

Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.

Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.

In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

This position is classified as "Safety Sensitive". All employees in safety sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing, pursuant to City policy, HR 15.0 Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
