Job Overview
The Activities Director plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in long-term care settings, including nursing homes and assisted living facilities. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing engaging activities that promote social interaction, physical well-being, and cognitive stimulation among seniors. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with the elderly and a strong background in event planning and senior care.
Duties
Design and implement a diverse range of activities tailored to meet the interests and needs of residents.
Coordinate special events, outings, and programs that encourage socialization and community involvement.
Assess residents' abilities and preferences to create individualized activity plans that promote engagement.
Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure activities align with residents' health and wellness goals.
Facilitate group activities such as games, arts and crafts, exercise classes, and educational workshops.
Maintain accurate records of resident participation and feedback to continually improve programming.
Provide support and guidance to staff members assisting with activities.
Foster a positive environment that encourages resident participation and enhances their overall well-being.
Requirements
Experience in long-term care settings such as nursing homes or assisted living facilities is preferred.
Knowledge of aging issues counseling, social work, or caregiving practices is highly desirable.
Familiarity with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) to better understand residents' needs.
Strong event planning skills with the ability to organize engaging programs for seniors.
Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and staff members.
A compassionate approach to working with seniors, demonstrating patience and understanding.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
A degree or certification in gerontology, social work, or related fields is an asset but not mandatory.
