Optical Designer

My client is a small (35-person) subsidiary of a large multi-national firm that develops custom optical (ultra violet, visible & infrared) systems for Gov’t. (DoD) and commercial imaging applications. A fast-paced design/prototyping/mfg. environment that offers exposure to a diverse range of products involving time-sensitive projects. Their most acute need is an (on-site) Optical Designer/Project Engineer with excellent communication skills to evaluate, develop, analyze, test & characterize precision optical systems in a highly client-interactive environment. You will enjoy significant autonomy, and the ability to expand your responsibilities into new skill areas. (Fiber Optics or Lasers are not a good fit) Qualifications: Develop design aspheres, reflective, and diffractive elements (using Zemax) System integration, metrology, testing, etc. Monte Carlo simulation, sensitivity, and tolerance analysis. Generate PowerPoint presentations for Design Review Activities for in/external customers. Translate client input into firm optical specifications. Work with Mfg & Opto-Mech Engineers on tolerances, drawings & mounting schemes. Continually learn & share the latest in optical science & fundamental physics principles Requirements BS in Optics/equivalent & 3 years of optical design/analysis (Zemax) Presentation skills ; able to articulate a fundamental optical system to non-optical engineers. Analytical/problem-solving skills ; identification, analysis, action planning & execution Able manage, support & complete multiple tasks. Support multiple projects where priorities can shift on the fly. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products US Citizen / Permanent Resident.
