Summary:

The Deputy Director of the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) & Deputy Title IX Coordinator works closely with the Executive Director to manage all functions related to investigation and resolution of discrimination complaints by faculty, staff, and students. This role ensures compliance with federal and state laws, and NMSU policies regarding unlawful discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and sexual misconduct. The position requires the performance of highly responsible and complex professional duties, along with the design, development, and management of specialized programs for NMSU's equal opportunity, Americans with Disabilities Act accommodations, and Title IX programs. Some budgetary responsibilities apply. The Deputy Director reports to the Executive Director.

Classification Summary:

The Deputy Director of the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE) & Title IX Coordinator works closely with the Executive Director to manage all functions related to investigation and resolution of discrimination complaints by faculty, staff, and students. This role ensures compliance with federal and state laws, and NMSU policies regarding unlawful discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and sexual misconduct.

Classification Standard Duties:

Assist the Executive Director in management of all operations of the OIE Office including supervision of employees and budgetary responsibilities.

Serve as the University's Title IX Coordinator including all aspects of intake, investigation, response, and resolution of reports of sexual misconduct.

Provide oversight and guidance to all OIE employees in conducting EEO and Title IX investigations, resolving ADA employee accommodation requests, and ensuring university compliance with non-discrimination laws and policies.

Utilize available data to identify patterns or systemic problems related to diversity & inclusion, equity, and sexual misconduct within the University community.

Provide equal opportunity, affirmative action, and sexual misconduct prevention training, presentations, and awareness programs as needed for students and employee groups.

Collaborate with various University offices and groups including the Dean of Students, Campus Housing, Athletics, Employee Labor Relations, Human Resource Services, and Aggie Health and Wellness Center.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency:

Requirements: Required Education: Master's degree in a related field. Required Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience in one or more areas of expertise required of this position. Equivalency: Bachelor's Degree with five (5) years relevant experience in conducting investigations related to equity, discrimination, or compliance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge:

Relevant law and compliance regulations under Title IX, Title VII, other federal and state non-discrimination laws, and ADA.

Skills:

Investigative techniques, analysis of evidence and report writing, formulation of policy, procedures relevant to equal opportunity and Title IX compliance, informative presentation style, conflict management and resolution.

Abilities:

Accurately communicate analysis and information, use independent judgment, manage employees and budget for university unit, engage in collaborative efforts to address campus concerns relating to equal opportunity issues.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort: Environment:

Work is normally performed indoors.

Physical Effort:

Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.

Lifting Requirements:

Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.

Risk:

Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
