The Morgridge College of Education (MCE) at the University of Denver (DU) is recruiting an Admissions Counselor. Our vision is to train global leaders who employ innovative and effective approaches to advance learning throughout the lifespan, educational change, and social equity. We are looking for a candidate who can lead efforts to promote MCE and recruit quality graduate level students to our programs. This is a full-time, benefitted position.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor manages all admissions aspects of assigned academic programs and is responsible for building strong relationships with prospective students and counterparts in partner programs. The counselor will review Master and Doctoral-level applications and make independent admission decisions for some Master-level admission applications. The counselor also works closely with faculty department chairs to ensure that the MCE meets enrollment goals. In addition, the position supports the goal of the university and college to attract and retain diverse students.
Essential Functions
Generate and follow up on leads resulting from individual inquiries and from marketing/recruitment efforts; independently create follow up protocol for prospects; advise prospective students regarding program information, admission requirements, and prerequisites; act as applicants' primary contact throughout application cycle including oversight of application completion and tracking.
Conduct information sessions and presentations to interested groups of potential applicants virtually, on campus, and to specific organizations/groups as appropriate.
Participate in the development of recruitment materials and partner with MCE marketing partners as needed.
Gather, analyze and interpret information on competitors' programs as well as new market opportunities.
Work with the Associate Director of Admissions and Department Chairs to assist in the development of admissions processes and required application materials.
Coordinate application processes, ensuring that enrollment plans are understood and managed in terms of communication, application and admissions processes.
Utilize the DU CRM (Slate) to maintain inquiry and applicant database.
Arrange sites for applicant interviews and communicate logistics with all involved.
Manage the use of the DU CRM system to track all student information, from inquiry through matriculation.
Support in the administration of financial aid in partnership with the Student Financial Aid officer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to effectively present information to a variety of audiences.
Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
Ability to understand industry trends and translate into measurable action plans.
Ability to summarize the results of recruiting efforts.
Act independently to resolve or enhance issues with guidance from supervisor.
Must be flexible to adapt to meet the needs of constituents.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited school.
1-2 years of admissions/marketing and/or communications experience.
Demonstrated commitment to and experience working with diverse populations.
Must possess valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Three years of administrative experience preferably in college/university admissions.
Knowledge of University procedures and advanced proficiency in Microsoft software applications.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated flexibility and creativity.
Teamwork approach to projects and problem solving.
Time management and solid organizational skills.
Working Environment
Standard office environment with moderate to high stress levels due to unexpected interruptions.
Physical Activities
Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Local and national travel is required.
