Production Manager
Salary or Pay Range: $67,700/yr. - $120,500/yr. (Dept. budgeted range: $67,700/yr. - $86,500/yr. Commensurate with experience)
Under general supervision, the Production Manager is responsible for technical staging and logistics of events for the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, with focus on providing the best possible artist and audience experience. The role involves:
- Directing activities of stage managers and principal and senior technicians.
- Overseeing activities of stage crews.
- Providing technical expertise to management, clients, and artists.
- Overseeing production-related safety.
- Building event budgets and monitoring expenditures.
The Production Manager's scope of responsibility includes technical details and logistics for all arts, lecture, and special events taking place at the Mondavi Center or other venues as assigned. The position directly or indirectly supervises 13 technical staff and oversees approximately 50 limited-term staff and students.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in theater production, stage management or a related field with knowledge in stage operations including lighting, electrics, sound, rigging, flyrail, video, and stage/house repair and maintenance.
- Supervisory experience including recruitment, selection, training, correcting, and evaluating employees. Skill to lead a diverse group of staff members.
- Experience with budgeting, scheduling, and vendor relations.
- Knowledge of fire and safety codes, regulations, and emergency procedures related to public assembly and stage safety, with skills to enforce these practices.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of constituents, including university and community clients, professional touring artists, their staffs, agents, performers, administrative staff, technical crews, and students.
- Capability to function as a liaison to all producing departments, gathering, interpreting, and communicating technical information for all events programmed.
- Strong organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- MA/MFA/BA degree in Production Management, Technical Production or Theatre Management with a technical theatre background or equivalent experience.
- Experience in a professional or educational performing arts center or theatrical center in a supervisory role.
- Experience managing and developing union and non-union staff.
- Experience working directly with stage lighting equipment; the applications of amplified sound; stage equipment and technology; or stage rigging and counterweight systems, including maintenance, use, replacement, and procurement of equipment.
