Location: Portland, OR (Holladay Park)

Schedule: Monday - Friday 7am-7pm (hours will vary depending on location)

Projected Duration: 3 months + potential for permanent placement

Based out of Holladay Park location, able to float at 2 other locations and training location, all within 25 miles of each other. Requires a clean driving record.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
  2. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
  3. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.
  4. Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  5. Fully understand all of the physicians' orders.
  6. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  7. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order.
  8. Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  9. Packages specimens for transport.
  10. Stores specimen samples according to required temperature and places samples in appropriate collection container/tube, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocols deemed necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.
  11. Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  12. Attends annual department trainings.
  13. Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states.
  2. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  3. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
