Location: Portland, OR (Holladay Park)

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7am-7pm (hours will vary depending on location)

The position is based out of Holladay Park location, with the ability to float at 2 other locations and a training location, all within 25 miles of each other. A clean driving record is required.

Main Function: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Experience performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination.
  2. Updating patient information.
  3. Collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures.
  4. Properly explaining the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear and courteous manner.
  5. Demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  6. Understanding all physicians' orders.
  7. Matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  8. Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order.
  9. Checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  10. Packaging specimens for transport.
  11. Storing specimen samples according to required temperature and placing samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes.
  12. Accurately labeling and following procedures outlined by specific protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
  13. Understanding and complying with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  14. Attending annual department trainings.
  15. Answering telephone calls and reading laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed, as required in some states.
  2. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  3. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
