The School of Engineering and Technology has an outstanding opportunity for a Graduate Program Recruiter/Advisor to join their team.
The Academic Recruiter/Advisor in the School of Engineering and Technology (SET) provides comprehensive student services and administrative support to students interested in our high demand graduate technology and engineering programs. This position reports to the Lead Academic Advisor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruitment (70%)
- Engage in national and international recruiting that requires knowledge of higher education systems in other countries such as China, Saudi Arabia, and India.
- Develop new and innovative recruitment programs for applicants from higher education and private industry.
- Plan activities and events for prospective graduate students, coordinate campus visits by prospective graduate students; host information nights and open houses, and meet with prospective students individually.
- Coordinate partnerships with agencies and create a social media presence in local, national, and foreign markets.
- Build relationships with counselors, faculty, and advisors at community colleges and baccalaureate degree programs in Engineering, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, and related majors.
- Represent the School of Engineering and Technology and the University of Washington Tacoma at college events and public information events.
- Develop and institute a diversity recruitment plan in support of the school’s efforts to build pipeline opportunities for underrepresented minorities and women.
- Work in coordination with SET staff to develop a coordinated marketing plan to include social media, radio, and outreach campaigns with Advancement.
- Responsible for assisting with writing/editing materials, such as program brochures and text/layout for website, and for developing social media as means to communicate with students and market program.
- Evaluate programs and services for graduate students by conducting surveys of enrolled graduate students and recommending changes that might enhance the graduate student experience.
- Travel to recruitment events and conferences.
- Be social media savvy for reaching prospective students locally, nationally, and internationally.
Academic Advising (25%)
- Provide personalized academic advising to current students, assisting with program requirements, course selection, and degree planning.
- Interpret and communicate university policies, procedures, and deadlines related to academics, financial aid, and scholarships.
- Guide students through research advisor selection, supervisory committee formation, and degree milestones.
- Monitor and communicate students' academic progress, ensuring they stay on track towards their goals.
- Collaborate with the graduate committee and faculty to strategize interventions for students' success.
Program Support (5%)
- Assist in managing the administrative aspects of the graduate programs, including maintaining student records and supporting curriculum initiatives.
- Coordinate thesis and research project presentations, ensuring a smooth process for students' degree completion.
- Collaborate with Graduate Program Coordinators to execute initiatives set by the graduate committee.
- Collect and provide data on admission and enrollment trends, program outcomes, and quality indicators.
- Represent the program on committees and meetings related to graduate programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of progressively responsible experience in higher education advising, recruitment, or admissions.
- Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- The ability to interact professionally with students, staff, and faculty, including non-native English speakers, using excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
- The ability to independently manage work priorities across multiple projects, meeting competing timelines, with precision and accuracy.
- The ability to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy and confidentiality.
- Self-motivated and uses available resources to solve problems and answer inquiries.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- The ability to use social media for graduate recruiting purposes.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Degree in education, counseling, business or related field.
- Experience with graduate programs.
- Understanding of the student lifecycle.
- Experience working with international students.
