Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Human Resources to oversee critical HR functions, ensuring compliance, fostering positive employee relations, managing employee lifecycle processes, and leading key activities related to benefits, policies, and unemployment insurance. This role is essential to maintaining an efficient, compliant, and employee-focused work environment.
As a strategic leader, the Director of Human Resources will report to and collaborate with senior leadership to align HR practices with organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
Employee Relations
Advise managers on disciplinary procedures, ensuring adherence to company policies and legal requirements. Guide and support managers in performance corrections, including written documentation for employee counseling. Collaborate with managers to ensure all termination procedures are followed, including compliance with final paycheck regulations and return of company property.
Benefits Management
Coordinate the annual open enrollment process, working with brokers to review and select group health plans and facilitate enrollment for employees. Oversee day-to-day benefits processing, ensuring accuracy in updates and exploring efficiencies in processes and program offerings. Ensure all required benefits paperwork for eligible employees is completed and accurately maintained.
Compliance & Policy Development
Review, update, and create company policies and HR forms, ensuring alignment with current laws and organizational needs. Oversee payroll garnishment processing to ensure accurate compliance with legal requirements.
Unemployment Insurance Management
Manage unemployment insurance (UI) claims, including completing responses, attending hearings, and coordinating with managers and legal counsel as needed.
Workplace Safety & Workers Compensation
Provide guidance on workers' compensation claims, responding promptly to reports of workplace injuries. Assist with filing and managing claims, ensuring timely and accurate communication with all parties involved.
Employee Lifecycle Management
Oversee all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including onboarding and offboarding processes, maintenance of accurate employee records, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Supervisory & Management Training
Facilitate monthly 1–2-hour training sessions for supervisors and managers, focusing on employment liability and best practices for managing HR-related challenges.
Qualifications: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred). A minimum of 7-10 years of progressive HR experience, including leadership roles. HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) is highly desirable. Skills & Competencies: Strong knowledge of HR laws, compliance, and best practices. Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Exceptional communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to build trust and maintain positive working relationships. Technical Skills: Proficiency in HRIS systems and benefits administration tools. Strong analytical and organizational skills.
