Overview
The CDL Driver Trainee will attend the Commercial Driver License (CDL) Training Program through the Solid Waste In-house training program to obtain a Class B commercial driver's license. The trainee must pass written and driving examinations. Once the course has been completed, after 3-to-5 weeks, the candidate will progress to a full-time, benefits eligible CDL Driver Apprentice position.
Responsibilities • Required to attend classroom sessions and behind the wheel training • Must pass all written and driving examinations • Must remain in an employment position with the City of Corpus Christi which requires a CDL license for 24 months from the date of obtaining the Class B CDL license • Performs other related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt- Temporary, Full-time • Non-rotating 40-hour training schedule, Monday - Friday, 7am - 4pm • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications • High School Diploma / GED • No Prior Experience Required • Must sign a CDL training agreement prior to starting the program
Licenses and Certifications
Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Employment Testing
Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below: • Criminal Background Check: Yes • Motor Vehicle Record Check: Yes • Drug Screening: Yes • Physical Exam: Yes
Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
Supplemental Information • Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
