Position: Human Resources Generalist
Location: Long Beach, CA (hybrid)
Department: People Services
Reports to: People Services Manager
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 40 hrs/week

THIS ROLE:
As the HR Generalist at Curtin Maritime, you will support various HR functions such as employee onboarding & offboarding, employee relations, and HR administration. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and have a strong understanding of HR policies and best practices. The HR Generalist will work closely with management to ensure compliance with labor laws & company policies. This role is crucial for creating a supportive and efficient work environment that fosters a culture of growth, engagement, and positive employee relations.
WHAT YOULL DO:
- Assist the People Services team with the onboarding & offboarding process for employees, ensuring an efficient and positive experience for everyone.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding HR inquiries, concerns, and conflict resolution.
- Provide guidance to managers on employee performance issues and disciplinary actions.
- Promote positive employee relations through engagement initiatives and feedback mechanisms.
- Support performance management initiatives, including the performance review process, individual development plans, and performance improvement plans.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws & regulations.
- Conduct audits, maintain accurate HR records and support with annual compliance Federal/State report submissions.
- Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures.
- Manage People Services sharepoint site and make recommendations for efficient use of this platform for employees use.
- Maintain and update HR databases, employee records, and systems.
- Ensure efficient utilization & maintenance of the companys HRIS platform.
- Prepare & maintain HR reports, tracking key HR metrics & KPIs.
WHO YOU ARE:
Certifications and Other Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- SHRM or similar certification preferred.
- 2-4 years of experience in HR role or related field.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with team members and stakeholders.
- Proficiency with HR software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively in a remote work environment.
- Located in the Long Beach, CA office, but hybrid schedule will be considered.
- High level of discretion and professionalism when dealing with sensitive information.
Mental Aptitudes
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, including being able to prioritize workload based on business needs.
- Knowledge of HR best practices, labor laws, and regulatory requirements.
Physical Aptitudes
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- Ability to use stairs on a regular basis.
