About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Manager to oversee all accounting operations for our construction business. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of construction accounting, proficiency in QuickBooks, and a strong ability to manage financial processes while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management:
Manage and oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, job costing, payroll, and financial reporting.
Monitor cash flow, budget performance, and financial forecasts to support business operations and growth.
Construction Accounting:
Perform job cost tracking, including project-based income and expenses.
Ensure accurate recording of construction-related costs, including materials, labor, and subcontractor expenses.
Prepare Work-In-Progress (WIP) reports and assist with percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
QuickBooks Management:
Maintain and optimize the company’s QuickBooks system for efficient financial management.
Troubleshoot issues and implement solutions to streamline processes within QuickBooks.
Compliance & Reporting:
Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including sales tax, payroll tax, and other state-specific requirements.
Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to senior management.
Team Leadership:
Supervise and mentor accounting staff to maintain accuracy and efficiency in all financial operations.
Provide training on best practices and new accounting tools or processes.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA designation is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in the construction industry.
Proficiency in QuickBooks (construction-focused experience preferred).
Skills:
Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including job costing and WIP reporting.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with construction management software such as Procore, Sage, or Buildertrend.
Experience managing payroll for union and non-union workers.
Knowledge of lien waivers, AIA billing, and other construction-specific financial documents.
