Pharmacist I - Starting Market Rate Salary $112,354.20

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, participates as a team member or team coordinator utilizing expertise in the area of pharmacy in inspections, certification surveys, and investigations in Long Term Care facilities to determine compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and rules. Essential Job Functions:

Conducts certification surveys, licensure inspections, or investigations in facilities to determine compliance with federal and state regulations.

Communicates on a complex level with others (internally or externally) to provide, exchange, or verify information, answer inquiries, address issues, or resolve problems or complaints.

Testifies at hearings or in court proceedings to provide information regarding policy/procedures, history, findings, or activities.

Completes inspection/survey reports listing deficiencies and prepares written reports supporting the actions and remedies recommended.

Visits facilities to verify correction of previously cited regulatory deficiencies/violations.

Conducts exit conferences with facility staff regarding findings and may assist in developing a plan to correct deficiencies.

Performs quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by others (for example, publications, assessments, reports).

Acts as subject matter expert (SME) for other regional survey teams statewide.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements, or Certifications:

Must be licensed as a pharmacist by the State of Texas and be in good standing with the Texas State board of Pharmacy.

Applicant must complete all training (federal/state) for Nursing Facilities, including completing Surveyor Minimum Qualification Training (SMQT) within one year of hire date.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of pharmacology principles and procedures and of the laws and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage, and dispensation of drugs. Knowledge of professional standards of patient care. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with team members and others. Ability to multi-task and track multiple activities with competing priorities.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to exercise professional judgment and reach sound decisions.

Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to evaluate drug therapies. Skill in operating personal computers and software.

Initial Screening Criteria:

Experience as a pharmacist. Experience interpreting patient data and medication related needs. Experience in a Long-Term Care Regulatory program preferred.

Additional Information:

Flexibility in work hours is required for this position. The job requires 80% statewide travel, with most travel during the day. However, some overnight and weekend travel is required, and occasional on-call duties for emergencies or high-priority situations in facilities. Must have reliable transportation.

Note: This position can work a compressed workweek with options Monday-Thursday and Tuesday-Friday, 10-hour days.
