PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The functions of the Speech Language Pathologist Licensed Assistant include serving as a member of the multidisciplinary team to determine eligibility for Special Education services under the disability of speech impairment, serving as representative of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee to develop appropriate Individual Education Plan (IEP) for students with speech impairments, and providing instructional speech therapy services to eligible students.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Holds a Bachelor's Degree and is licensed by the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
(The Assistant may only practice under supervision of the licensed Speech Language Pathologist who
agrees to accept responsibility for the services provided by the Assistant):

• Complies with all federal, state, local and campus policies, operating procedures and legal requirements.
• Plans for the implementation of Individual Educational Plan (IEP) goals and objectives by preparing appropriate instructional materials and planning appropriate instructional activities.
• Implements the IEP goals and objectives as per the most current Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) recommendation.
• Collects data and maintains clinical records.
• Administers routine tests as defined by the State Board of Examiners for SLP/Audiology.
• Maintains confidentiality of all student information.
• Promotes and supports environment which is conducive to positive staff morale and directed towards achievement of the campus, department, and district mission.
• Takes initiative to participate in professional development activities correlated to the child-centered process with emphasis on speech and language issues in order to keep abreast of current techniques, regulations, and to obtain continuing education credits for licensure.
• Researches information to enhance therapeutic methods and/or increased understanding of low-incidence and/or complex cases.
• Participates with the licensed speech language pathologist in staff development and public relations activities.
• Conducts oneself in a professional ethical manner in accordance with generally accepted community standards and complies with State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Code of Ethics.
• Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
• Maintain emotional control under stress; regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting and carrying; may be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities
