Position Summary
The Employee Relations Manager is responsible for fostering a positive, compliant work environment by managing employee relations matters, conducting investigations, and ensuring fair and consistent resolutions. This role serves as the primary contact for employee relations issues, providing guidance to employees and leadership while proactively supporting engagement, culture, and workplace satisfaction initiatives.
This role requires a primary on-site presence at the Southfield office, with travel to other company locations as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities Serve as the primary contact for employee relations concerns, offering guidance and resolution strategies. Participate in the employee engagement committee, advocating for staff and contributing to initiatives that enhance workplace culture and employee experience. Conduct impartial investigations into employee complaints or grievances, ensuring fair outcomes and compliance with company policies and legal requirements. Partner with leadership to address organizational, cultural, and morale-related opportunities. Support leaders with corrective action, performance management, and the evaluation process to ensure proper handling and documentation of employee relations matters. Develop and facilitate training programs for leadership on best practices in employee relations to enhance workplace experience and drive performance. Monitor employee engagement and satisfaction, analyze trends, and provide actionable recommendations to leadership. Ensure compliance with workplace regulations, policies, and labor laws. Serve as the primary point of contact for workplace injuries, coordinating reporting and follow-up procedures. Oversee hourly workforce compensation management, ensuring alignment with company policies and industry standards. Provide backup support for HR functions, including leave administration and new hire onboarding. Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications
Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum of five years of experience in employee relations, HR, or a similar role. Experience supporting employee relations across multiple locations. Demonstrated background of having a strong knowledge of labor laws, workplace regulations, and HR best practices. Proven experience managing conflict, resolving disputes, and conducting investigations. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism and discretion. Strong analytical skills to identify trends and recommend improvements. Professional HR certification (HRCI or SHRM) preferred. Employee Relations Expertise - Strong ability to handle employee concerns, grievances, and workplace conflicts with professionalism and discretion. Investigative & Analytical Skills - Ability to conduct thorough, fair, and objective investigations, analyze data trends, and recommend effective solutions. Conflict Resolution & Mediation - Strong conflict management and problem-solving skills to address workplace disputes effectively. HR Compliance & Employment Law - In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local labor laws, workplace regulations, and HR policies. Communication & Interpersonal Skills - Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with employees at all levels. Coaching & Counseling Abilities - Experience in guiding employees and managers on performance management, disciplinary actions, and workplace behavior. Confidentiality & Ethics - High level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive employee matters with discretion. Employee Engagement & Retention Strategies - Knowledge of best practices for fostering a positive workplace culture and improving employee morale. Compensation & Benefits Knowledge - Understanding of compensation management for hourly employees and familiarity with pay structures and benchmarking. HRIS & Data Management - Experience working with HR systems for case tracking, documentation, and reporting. Workplace Safety & Injury Management - Understanding of workers' compensation policies and procedures for handling workplace injuries. Change Management - Ability to support organizational changes and help employees adapt to new policies or workplace initiatives.
