Duties

You will serve as an IT Cybersecurity Specialist and be responsible for planning, analysis, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, and procedures.

Typical work assignments include:
  • Developing policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data; conducting risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed information systems to identify vulnerabilities, risks, and protection needs.
  • Developing systems security contingency plans and disaster recovery procedures; developing and implementing programs to ensure that systems, network, and data users are aware of, understand, and adhere to systems security policies and procedures.
  • Participating in network and systems design to ensure implementation of appropriate systems security policies.
  • Responsible for implementation, deployment, maintenance and administration of the CG's portions of the DoD Information Network and IT Infrastructure.
  • Monitoring network capacity and performance and diagnosing network connectivity problems and responding to incidents as appropriate.
  • Ensuring all systems security operations and maintenance activities are properly documented and updated as necessary.
  • Assessing the effectiveness of security controls and implementing security measures to resolve vulnerabilities, mitigate risks and recommend security changes to system or system components as needed.
  • Implementing system security measures in accordance with established procedures to ensure confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, and non-repudiation.
  • Mitigating/correcting security deficiencies identified during security/certification testing and/or recommending risk acceptance for the appropriate senior leader or authorized representative.

Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

Specialized experience must include all of the following:
  • Developing policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility; AND
  • Developing systems security contingency plans and disaster recovery procedures; AND
  • Participating in network and systems design to ensure implementation of appropriate systems security policies; AND
  • Participating in implementation, deployment, maintenance and administration of Network and IT infrastructure; AND
  • Participating in ensuring all systems security operations and maintenance are properly documented.

NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement, you must also have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.
