Functions and Responsibilities

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Controller / Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or designee, the General Ledger Accountant is responsible for performing general accounting and other related functions of the College.

Supervisory Role

Oral and written instructions are received from the Comptroller / Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or designee, the General Ledger Accountant may supervise professional and support staff, and student workers.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Perform the general accounting functions including and not limited to grant accounting, fund accounting, account analysis, financial statement, report preparation, and other related functions of the College.

2. Oversee the grant accounting functions

3. Handle the completion and timely submission of fiscal operation reports to funders.

4. Reconcile fund accounts on a monthly basis. Prepare and post fund account entries as required.

5. Review and monitor revenue, expense, assets and liability account postings to ensure accuracy and control.

6. Maintain monthly audit schedules and collate data for the preparation of audit-ready financial statements.

7. Monitor established internal controls to ensure proper compliance.

8. Assist with the planning and implementation of modifications to the accounting system. Review and apply updates to existing functions as required.

9. Maintain strict confidentiality and security of staff and student records.

10. Prepare routine, special and ancillary reports as required.

11. Perform other related duties as required.

Additional Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities

1. Bachelor's degree.

2. Experience in general accounting.

3. Experience with the management of computerized financial management systems, preferably the Banner system.

4. Demonstrated knowledge of practices and procedures used in financial administration, preferably in higher education.

5. Excellent interpersonal skills.

6. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

7. Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Education RequirementsBachelor's Degree

Licenses and Certifications (including e.g., CPR, first aid, driver's license, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities

1. Master's degree in Accounting or related field, CPA.

2. Two or more years of experience in general accounting.

3. Two or more years of experience with the management of computerized financial management systems, preferably the Banner system.

4. Demonstrated ability to comfortably perform, both effectively and accurately, in a fast-paced environment.
